What did you do this past week?

This week, I spent some time catching up on work for my government class and my marketing class. Additionally, I started planning out a side project I want to work on with a friend of mine. I didn’t spend much time last week working on phase 4 of the project, but my group plans on working a lot in the next couple days. Lastly, I spent some time this weekend with a friend who I don’t see very often, so that was nice.

What’s in your way?

Apparently our website has some broken links, so before we can proceed to optimizations for phase 4, we need to make sure everything is routed properly. Aside from that though, we have no major blockers yet.

What will you do next week?

Next week my group and I will do a thorough walk-through of our website together, and determine all the components that need work (or simply could look better). I will probably work on the front end components since that is what I’ve worked on for the majority of the phases. Additionally, I need to figure out how to incorporate more front end testing using Jest. Lastly, my group and I plan to pre-record our presentation in a video, so we will probably do that this week also.

If you read it, what did you think of The New Methodology?

I have not yet read this week’s paper, so I don’t really have any thoughts on it.

What was your experience of SQL? (this question will vary, week to week)

I’m familiar with the basic select, from, and where keywords of SQL (and their meanings), but the group by and having keywords are new to me. However, they are fairly intuitive, and I think I’m comfortable with their meanings now. Additionally, it took me a little bit to adapt to the syntax of SQL, but I think I’ve got it now. I’m still not sure if I’m writing SQL code in syntax that matches the convention (such as capitalizing SQL keywords), but at least I’m writing SQL code that compiles.

What made you happy this week?

This week I took a Covid test because I was exposed to someone who was exposed to someone whose boyfriend tested positive. I was really scared that I may have given Covid to my parents, brother, and even a couple friends that I saw this week. Fortunately, my test result came back negative, so I think I’m clear.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip of the week is to use people who are not familiar with web development to your advantage in phase 4 of the project. What I mean by this is that sometimes it helps to get the perspective of somebody who views the website from a completely different lens than a software developer. I plan to show my mom my group’s website, and asking her for her suggestions regarding look and feel of the front end.
